Interior House Painting Cost in Myerstown and Lebanon County, PA: By Room, By House, and What Prep Is Worth (2026)
By the Amazing Builders crew, Myerstown, PA. Prices quoted are typical ranges for our region, not a quote for your house. Ask for one.
Painting a whole 2,000-square-foot house inside runs $4,200 to $9,500 in Lebanon County. A single bedroom runs $400 to $800. Those are the numbers people call about, and they are right as far as they go. What they hide is that two painters can quote the same room $300 apart and both be honest, because the price is mostly prep and paint, not the rolling.
These are typical regional ranges from industry sources and our own jobs. A quote comes after we see the walls.
Cost by house size
Industry sources put interior painting at $2 to $6 per square foot of floor area: about $2.75 for walls alone and closer to $4.70 once ceilings and trim are included. For Lebanon County houses that works out to:
| House | Floor area | Walls, ceilings and trim |
|---|---|---|
| Small house or rowhome | 1,000 to 1,400 sq. ft. | $2,500 to $5,500 |
| Three-bedroom house | 1,800 to 2,200 sq. ft. | $4,200 to $9,500 |
| Four-bedroom house | 2,800 to 3,400 sq. ft. | $7,500 to $14,000 |
| Large or custom house | 4,000 sq. ft. and up | $12,000 to $20,000 and up |

Where the money actually goes
A painter's day is mostly not painting. On a typical bedroom:
- Moving and covering: an hour. Furniture to the middle, floors covered, outlets taped.
- Prep: two to four hours. Nail holes filled, cracks taped, old caulk cut out and replaced at the trim, glossy surfaces sanded, stains primed. This is the part that separates a paint job from a coat of paint.
- Cutting in: an hour per coat. The brush line at the ceiling, the trim and the corners.
- Rolling: forty minutes per coat.
- Trim and doors: as long as the walls, sometimes longer. Six-panel doors and window casings are slow.
So prep and trim are more than half the labor. When one quote is far below the others, that is usually what got cut.
Paint: the $30 gallon and the $70 gallon
Budget paint runs $30 to $40 a gallon and often needs a touch-up in a few years, especially in hallways. Premium paint runs $60 to $90 or more, covers in fewer coats, scrubs clean and holds its finish far longer. On a whole house the difference in paint cost is a few hundred dollars against thousands in labor, which is why we quote premium paint by default and name the product in the estimate.
Finish matters too: flat on ceilings, matte or eggshell on walls, satin or semi-gloss on trim and doors. Flat paint on a hallway wall is a mistake you will clean around for years. Low-VOC paints are standard now; the EPA explains why that matters indoors.

Houses in Lebanon, Myerstown and Annville built before 1960 have plaster. Plaster takes paint well once the cracks are fixed, but the cracks come back if they are only filled; they need tape or a skim coat. Our drywall repair guide covers that.
Houses built before 1978 may have lead paint under the newer layers. Sanding it is a real hazard for children. We work to the EPA lead-safe rules in those houses, which adds containment time and shows up in the price.
Farmhouses have tall ceilings, wide old trim and a lot of windows. The trim is the job.
Do it yourself or hire?
DIY materials for one room run about $200 to $600. A professional does the same room for $700 to $1,800, according to This Old House. The honest split:
Paint it yourself if it is one room, the walls are sound, the ceiling is eight feet and you have a weekend. A bedroom is a good first job.
Hire it if there is a stairwell, a two-story room, a lot of trim, water stains, plaster cracks, or more than three rooms. The ladder work and the prep are where the time and the risk are, and a crew finishes a whole house in days.
How we paint a house
- Walkthrough with the owner, room by room, colors and finishes written down.
- Furniture moved, floors and fixtures covered, outlets and switches taped.
- Prep: fill, tape, sand, caulk, prime stains and patches.
- Ceilings first, then walls, two coats, then trim and doors.
- Walk the house with a light at the end of each day. Touch-ups before we leave, not after you find them.
- Furniture back, floors cleaned, tape off.
We do painting as the last step of every remodel, which is why we are picky about it. The painted walls, trim and risers in our South Philadelphia rowhome were the final two weeks of a four-month job.
PennsylvaniaJul 2024duringWays to spend less without regret
- Paint all the rooms at once. Setup is the same for one room or four, and the price per room drops.
- Keep the ceilings white and the trim one color through the house.
- Pick two or three wall colors, not eight. Every color change is a cleaned roller and a cut-in line.
- Skip the accent wall unless you love it. It is a fourth color and a fourth cut line.
Do not skip prep, primer on patches, or caulk at the trim. Those are the three things that make a paint job look new in year five.
