Drywall Repair Cost in Myerstown and Lebanon, PA: Prices by Damage Type and When to Do It Yourself (2026)
By the Amazing Builders crew, Myerstown, PA. Prices quoted are typical ranges for our region, not a quote for your house. Ask for one.
Most drywall repairs in Myerstown and Lebanon cost between $150 and $800. A nail pop is at the bottom of that range; a water-damaged ceiling is above the top of it. The national average for a standalone repair call is about $600, and Lebanon County tracks close to that. Below is what each kind of damage costs, what a good repair involves, and the honest line between a job you can do with a $12 kit and one you should call about.
Prices are typical ranges for our area, not a quote. Every repair is priced after we see it.
Drywall repair cost by damage type
| Damage | Typical cost | What the job involves |
|---|---|---|
| Nail pops and hairline cracks, per spot | $75 to $150 | Reset the fastener, tape, two coats of compound, sand, prime. Several in one room are bundled. |
| Small hole or dent, under 4 inches | $75 to $250 | Patch, tape, mud, sand, prime. |
| Medium hole, 4 to 12 inches | $150 to $400 | Backing board behind the hole, new drywall patch, three coats. |
| Large hole or wall section, over a foot | $400 to $800 and up | New sheet, framing check, multiple coats, texture match if any. |
| Water damage | $500 to $2,500 and up | Find and stop the leak first. Cost climbs if insulation, framing or mold are involved. |
| Full wall or ceiling replacement | $1.50 to $3.50 per square foot | Material and labor, before paint. |
| Popcorn ceiling removal | $1 to $2 per square foot | Add asbestos testing for houses built before 1980. |
Add paint to all of the above. A patch is not finished until it is primed and painted, and a painted patch in a room that was painted five years ago will show unless the whole wall gets a coat. We tell you that up front.
South Philadelphia, PAMay 2025duringWhat a good repair looks like
Anyone can fill a hole. The difference between a repair that disappears and one that shows in afternoon light is in the steps most people skip:
- Fix the cause. A crack above a door that keeps coming back is the house moving, not the drywall failing. A stain is a leak. We look for the reason before we patch.
- Back the patch. Anything bigger than a golf ball gets a piece of wood or a drywall clip behind it so the patch cannot flex.
- Tape, not just mud. Mud without tape cracks. Paper tape for flat joints, mesh for small patches, paper again on corners.
- Three thin coats, not one thick one. Each coat wider than the last, feathered out 12 to 18 inches on a big patch. This is what makes the edge invisible.
- Sand with a light held at a low angle. Overhead light hides everything. A light across the wall shows every ridge.
- Prime the patch before paint. Bare compound soaks up paint and leaves a dull spot. Primer evens it out.
Lebanon County houses and the drywall we see
Older houses in Lebanon, Annville and the boroughs often have plaster, not drywall. Plaster can be patched with setting compound and a bonding agent, but a wall that is cracking everywhere is usually better skim-coated or covered with new drywall over the old plaster. We price both.
Post-war houses in Myerstown and Palmyra have drywall that has been painted eight times. Patches on those walls need a full wall of paint to blend. Newer houses in the townships have textured ceilings that need a texture match, which is a skill of its own.
Water damage shows up most in two places: ceilings under bathrooms, and exterior walls near old window frames. Both mean the leak gets fixed first. Our windows and doors page covers the second one.
Do it yourself or call?
We would rather tell you the truth than sell you a job you can do on a Saturday.
Do it yourself:
- Nail pops and small dings.
- Holes under 2 inches, with a kit from the hardware store.
- Hairline cracks that have not come back after one repair.
Call us:
- Anything over 4 inches, or anything in a ceiling. Ceiling patches sag if they are not backed properly.
- Any stain, any softness, any smell. That is water, and water is never only a drywall problem.
- Cracks that return, cracks that run diagonally from a door or window corner, or a crack you can fit a coin in. Those can be structural.
- A whole room you want to look new. A single patch is a weekend; a smooth wall is a trade.
- Anything in a house built before 1978 where you would be sanding old paint. Lead paint dust is a real risk for children; the EPA's lead-safe rules apply, and we follow them.
A good DIY walkthrough for small patches is This Old House's guide to patching drywall. If the patch is bigger than your hand, call.
Drywall and paint together
Most of our drywall work is part of a painting job or a remodel. A patch is cheaper when the painter is already in the room, and a room that gets fresh paint hides a patch completely. If you have several repairs and the room needs paint anyway, ask for both in one estimate; the combined price is lower than two visits. Our painting page explains how we prep.
PennsylvaniaJul 2024duringNew drywall in a renovation
In a renovation the drywall is a bigger job than a repair: hanging, taping and finishing whole rooms. In a South Philadelphia rowhome we hung and finished the entire first floor after it was taken to the studs, then primed and painted it. New drywall is priced per square foot, and the finish level matters: a level 4 finish is standard for painted walls; a level 5 skim coat is for walls that will get a glossy paint or strong side light, like a long hallway with a window at the end.
What the law says about hiring for this
Pennsylvania's Home Improvement Consumer Protection Act requires any contractor doing more than $5,000 of home improvement work a year to register with the Attorney General. Any job over $500 needs a written contract, and you have three business days to cancel after signing. A drywall repair is usually under that, but a whole-room job with paint is not. Ask for the registration number either way.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to repair a hole in drywall in Lebanon? A small hole, $75 to $250. A hole bigger than a foot, $400 to $800. Water damage, $500 and up, after the leak is fixed.
Can you match my ceiling texture? Usually. We spray or stomp a sample patch first and compare it before doing the whole area.
How long does a repair take? Compound needs to dry between coats. A single patch is two or three short visits over two to three days, or one long day with setting compound.
Will the patch show? Not if it is primed and the wall gets a coat of paint. A patch with only touch-up paint on an old wall will show in most light.
